Greetings; Voters of the Minnesota Eighth Judicial District,
I am Glen M. Jacobsen, Assistant County Attorney for Renville County.
I am announcing my candidacy for District Court Judge, Eighth Judicial District, in Willmar, Kandiyohi County.
A Judge must support and defend the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Minnesota, the Statutes of Minnesota and the Rules of Court.
If you do the Crime, you should do the Time.
I believe that punishment must fit the crime. It must be harsh enough that the perpetrator and potential criminals will become educated by the punishment experience. Treatment or counseling, along with community service, restitution, fines and apologies may be a component of probation, but they should not be an entire sentence.
Our Justice System can do much better at supporting the work of law enforcement by punishing perpetrators of criminal activity.
The Court must also acknowledge that Victims have rights. Too often Victims of crimes leave the Court believing that they were not heard or that Justice was not done in their case.
I have been an attorney and prosecutor for 23 years and have lived in the District, near Bird Island, for over six years. I am 52 years old and have been married to my wife Donna for 29 years.
It is my intent to be fair and unbiased in each and every case, regardless of the type of case or who the parties are. I will make rulings based on the Constitution and the lawful rules, statutes and guidelines of the State of Minnesota and of the Justice system.
